Pixel density answers only one production question. A 300 DPI file can still be rejected for the wrong aspect ratio, missing bleed, an unsupported colour space, live fonts, or transparency that renders against the wrong background. Preflight turns those separate risks into one repeatable routine.
Use the current vendor template
Generic values are useful for planning, but the printer owns the final specification. Download a fresh template for apparel, canvas, packaging, and phone cases before every important export. Then verify the actual pixel dimensions with the print checker.
A sensible proofing order
- Lock the physical size, orientation, crop, bleed, and safe area.
- Confirm effective DPI and inspect the image at 100% for focus and compression damage.
- Apply the printer’s colour instructions and preview shadows, neutrals, and skin tones.
- Export the required format, reopen that exported file, and order a proof when the job matters.

- Is 300 DPI enough to make a file print-ready?

- Should I convert every print file to CMYK?
- No. Many photo labs and print-on-demand services request sRGB files. Convert to CMYK only when the printer explicitly provides a CMYK workflow and profile.
